Peter Weibel

Peter Weibel made major contributions to several avant-garde movements during the 1960s: visual poetry, concept art, media art, and Vienna Actionism, a term he coined. In the 1980s he began working with digital media.

He was artistic consultant and then director of Ars Electronica Linz (1986-1995) and has been professor for Media Art at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna since 1984 and chairman of the ZKM, Karlsruhe, since 1999. In addition to his artistic activities, Weibel has published a large body of theoretical writings.
