Lancel/Maat at Venice Biennale 2015
DIGITAL SYNESTHESIA artists duo Karen Lancel & Hermen Maat will close the 56th Venice Biennale 2015, showing their internationally acclaimed performance installation “Saving Face” from November 18 until 22, 2015.
Invited by the Beijing Culture and Art Center, the artists will perform their piece in this year’s acclaimed Chinese Pavilion, every day from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. “To this Venice Biennale, which is titled ‘All the World’s Futures’, ‘Saving Face‘ is an exceptional interactive contribution, reflecting on our networked society experience,” they say.
Lancel/Maat explain the work as an “experimental technological bio-feedback system for a poetic ‘meeting-through-touching ritual’. With the help of a personal ‘Touching Face Scan’, participants caress their own faces, to connect online with family, friends and strangers worldwide. They become tangible and visible for each other in a relational process, a ‘social sculpture’; in which we invite them to endlessly meet, caress, mirror and merge.”
After Venice ‘Saving Face’ will travel to Beijing, for the new museum Beijing Culture and Art Center’s opening performance on December 26, 2015.
